Hello everyone!

Welcome to our Spring 2008 Newsletter - We've been away for a while whilst we make changes to our website. From now on as soon as we have news we will share it with you here. We have some amazing talent at et-nik-a, we are proud of our artists and the work they do. Recently more talented artists have joined us and we would like to welcome you to et-nik-a, this really is where culture and talent meet !

Jina Burrows landed the role of Prissy in a new musical adaptation of the classic film Gone with the Wind which opened recently at the New London Theatre.

"But the most engaging performances come from Natasha Yvette Williams as the stoically enduring Mammy and from Jina Burrows as the flighty Prissy , both obliged to serve the self-regarding Scarlett" - Michael Billington The Guardian 23.4.2008.

Film

 

Ray Bullock Jnr . plays the lead role in The Vanguard a film by Matthew Hope. His co-star Farhan Khan also has a leading role. The film is currently being shown in Brussels and other European countries to follow. It will premiere at the Filmhouse Cinema   during the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June.

Farhan Khan participates as one of the actors in The Shooting Party a film-making project by independent production companies. There are 12 parts to this documentary due to be broadcast on Channel 4 starting 20 th April

Crystal Yu was cast by Marilyn Johnson for the role of Ping - Jimmy's little sister in Diamond Geezer II . She plays a pretty college girl who looks like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth! Under her meek exterior lies a martial arts expert as tough as nails.

Nirmala Martis - plays Aditi an Asian primary school teacher in her late 40's who collapses in the staff room in this short film for the British Heart Foundation . Hard-hitting and emotive, the film is told through three personal stories, on of which is Aditi's. The film informs us that heart disease is the UK's biggest killer

Michelle Lee landed the part of a Cambodian Lady in a short film for the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust , a national charity. It aims to show that from Holocaust should learn to never let such terrible discrimination happen again but to embrace the ethic and cultural diffirence and build a future where celebrate each others difference not victimise groups because of it.

Hon Ping Tang plays Charlie in this feature film Cash and Curry (A.K.A Imitation of Life) written by Christine Edwards and Manish Patel

TV

 

Elizabeth Tan   landed the role of Anna Zhou in the infamous BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who Watch out for Elizabeth in episode 13 of the current series.

Justin Marosa - was cast for the role of Jeph in the long running BBC soap Eastenders , episode 1371

Hon Ping Tang has just finished shooting the fourth series of Ideal for the BBC. He plays the part of Chen. Ideal is due to be screened shortly on BBC 2

Oreke Mosheshe was recently cast by Sarah Trevis for the part of Sadie in the ITV drama Whatever It Takes

Tony Walker featured as part of Michael Apted's award-winning UP series. Cameras followed various youngsters (including Tony) from when they were 7 years old until the present day with the latest being 49UP which aired on ITV. The UP Series made a major impact in the USA and is now very popular in Australia

Bruce Wang   played a native American Indian in Lady Godiva: Back in the Saddle , a comedy that is '1000 years in the making' directed by Baz Taylor who has also directed episodes of BBC's My Family, Midsommer Murders and Lovejoy. It premiered in November in Coventry and is due for nationwide release early this year

Richard Woo plays the part of Ling who has a key role in the opening of Gift a feature film produced by BUFO Ltd. and was filmed in Sofia, Bulgaria

Commercials

Joanne Sandi was featured in the 2007 Boots Christmas TVC Here Come The Girls . a very energetic and cool commercial featuring a group of female office workers applying make-up for a Christmas party, click here to view the commercial:

Jake Briski   et-nik-a's very talented model was cast for a stills campaign for Levis. Jake also appeared in a stills campaign for Microsoft and a TVC for Nintendo Wii alongside Aston Merrygold and Howard Corlett

Oreke Mosheshe and Willan Shombe featured in a DFS TVC

Jake Briski, Chloe Raunet and Jon Yang did a futuristic office photo shoot with Matt Antrobus

Howard Corlett and Granville Finckle featured in a stills photographic campaign for Ford Motor Company Photographer: James Day; Casting Director: Sue Odell

Derek Nesbeth and Leon Herbert were cast as two of the principals for a Motorola campaign for the US market along with 13 talented artists from et-nik-a namely, Shu-Yi Chin , Funda Onal , Justin Marosa , Sam Cocozza , Jennifer Jal-Wang , Jennifer Sangalang , Mohima Khanom , Sharan Raju , Abraham Scott , Ludovic, Deforseau, Dominic Wilson and Joel Van Der Molen Photographer: Taylor James; Casting Director: Mike Redfern

Theatre

 

et-nik-a artists are successfully landing various TIE contracts from Theatre End, Impact Universal and other commissioned independent theatre an repertory companies in the UK

Kal Aise - just finished playing the role of Etash Taylor in the successful run of Rafta Rafta No. 1 UK National Tour last March

Anthony Wise will be playing the role of Lillias Pastia - Carmen in French for the   Glyndebourne Festival Opera Production of Carmen from 6 th July to 31 st August 2008 and the UK no. 1 tour will commence on the 17 th October to 5 th December 2008

George Tardios received a fine review for his portrayal of elder Orhan and as a mother for the production of Pera Palas which played at the Arcola Theatre in June 2007 |

Tanya Vital took part in this Tuareg Production of The Ones We Left Behind - a drama project exploring migration, families and the idea of 'home'

Opera

Nadine Smith will be soon performing in one of the leading opera company in the world....watch this space for more details

Melissa Keyes will be in the cast of The Bacchae a production of National Theatre Scotland which will run in Glasgow then tour the UK and go on to New York - the full run is from 2 nd June to 13 th July 2008.

Musical Theatre

Makakilo Ancheta landed a role in the new production of All You Need is Love UK NO. 1 Tour. From 12 th May to 24 th September 2008. Visit the website: www.spiritofthedance.com

Jina Burrows and Nadine Smith were part of the ensemble cast for Carmen Jones that opened last summer at the newly renovated Royal Festival Hall

Dario Mazzoli returns as Dustin in Starlight Express which is currently on until May 2008 at the Starlight Express Theatre in Bochum, Germany

David Cutler as one of the cast and to understudy some of the roles in the European production of We Will Rock You

Stephen John Davis   made a successful two-year run in the cast of Phantom Of The Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre he is now understudying and playing the part of Val Jean and Javert in the world's best loved musical Les Miserables at the Queens Theatre. His part in the production ends on 20 th June

Nadine Smith will be reprising the role of Bess in the French production of Porgy and Bess June 2008

Pantomime 2008-09

Aston Merrygold from the popular CiTV Fun Song Factory, has been cast as Peter Pan 'the boy who never grew up', at the The Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton from the 6 th December 2008 to 25 th January 2009 .

Mark Hyde has been cast for Aladdin in Surrey from the 3 rd of Nov until the 10 th January 2009.
